Final rites held for victim of Divulapitiya police shooting

The final rites of the late S.M.Kelum Subasinghe, who was killed in police fire in the Baravawila area in Divulapitiya, were performed Thursday.

A large gathering arrived at the residence of the victim located in Baravawila, Divulapitiya to pay their last respects.

Kelum Subasinghe, 19, was killed in police fire when he was returning from a wedding with his brother.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said that the magisterial inquiry into the incident will take place on July 1.

Meanwhile, a group of residents staged a protest against the police shooting, by obstructing the Divulapitiya – Kurunegala Main road Thursday morning.

Vehicular traffic was hampered as residents attempted to take the cortege towards that Divulapitya town.

Thereafter, the group proceeded to the Baravawila Public Cemetery to conduct the final rites.
