Police curfew remains effective in Aluthgama and Beruwala; Mathugama incident claims a life

The police curfew imposed in the Aluthgama and Beruwela Police Divisions is still in effect. The army has been deployed in the area in addition to the police and Police Special Task Force personnel, to provide security in the area.

Meanwhile, another individual was killed in an incident that occurred in Henegama, Mathugama on Monday night.

Groups had also damaged several shops in the town of  Welipenna.  A guard at a farm in Henegama, Mathugama was killed while another guard was injured and hospitalised. The deceased was a fifty-eight- year-old individual.

While the situation in the Welipenna town had been brought under control by Tuesday afternoon, a heavy security presence was evident. Residents of the Welipenna town said the situation was created by external parties who had come into the town on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Army Media Spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya noted that the army had been deployed at certain locations in Aluthgama and Beruwala, to provide security.
