Upcountry train services slow down as rail track remains inaccessible

Train services along the upcountry railway line continue to be restricted to Bandarawela. Train services have been restricted following an earthslip and rockslide that was experienced in the 280th kilometre post area between Demodara and Uduwara .

Repair and clearing continue to take place to clear debris from the railway track. The Railway Control Room notes that railway employees have been assigned to carry out repair work on the railway track.

Officials state that work is progressing at a slow pace due to the location of incident as several houses are located down hill from the location where the incident had taken place. Officials added that the track will be cleared in three days.

Meanwhile, train services were initially restricted on the upcountry railway line on May 28. Nearly 30 feet of railway track were covered in debris from the earth slip and rock slide. When the incident was first reported, officials estimated that the track could be cleared in three days.
