University students protest against Deyata Kirula exhibition venue

A group of undergraduates staged a protest against the decision taken to host the Deyata Kirula exhibition at the Ruhunu University premises.The protest was staged by the University Students Federation and was joined by the students attached to the Agriculture Faculty in Mapalana.

The demonstration was staged on Wednesday by a group of undergraduates attached to the Ruhunu University.

The students charged that the hosting of the Deyata Kiriula exhibition will in no way bring development to the university. However,the Vice Chancellor of the Ruhunu University recently said that all student unions had given the green light to host the exhibition at the university premises.

Meanwhile, the Lanka teacher services union staged a demonstration based on several demands. The demonstrators began their protest march opposite the Parliament Roundabout and staged a protest opposite the Ministry of Education.

The protest was staged against the government’s decision to exclude the gratuity in the pension, and the non-removal of salary anomalies for principals. The protesters who staged their protest disrupting vehicular movement along the Kottawa – Borella old road, dispersed fifteen minutes later.
