A group engaged in a protest opposite the head office of The Capital Maharaja Organisation in Colombo Monday morning. This was following another demonstration that took place Sunday night.

The protesters were demanding the reinstatement of a participant who was voted out of last weekend’s Sirasa Super Star Season 6 reality show episode. The protesters met with senior officials of MTV Channel (Pvt) Ltd and voiced their demands. Thereafter, the crowd dispersed.

The popular Sirasa Super Star reality show, now in its sixth season, is known for unearthing some of the brightest new musical talent in Sri Lanka. This year’s competition saw Gayan Arosha, Harsha Chathuranga, Muditha Jayakodi and Nuwan Bulathsinghala make the final four.

In a subsequent ‘Wild Card Round,’ Tehani Imara, Kanishka Salinda and Chamara Prasad were reinstated in the show. Last weekend saw all seven participants go head-to-head in a order to avoid elimination and survive another week. The verdict was determined by a 60:40 ratio of fan votes via SMS, IVR and online, and the coaches’ verdict. This year’s competition was very close, with over 5.5 million fan votes tallied throughout the duration of the show.

This Sunday’s episode began with an address to all fans from Mr. Chandana Sooriyabandara, channel head of Sirasa TV.
