Speaking at an event held in Hambantota on Saturday evening, UNP Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa said the end of terrorism was a victory for the country.
The ending of terrorism was fortuitous for the entire nation. It was an opportunity for prosperity that we all received. We must not be envious at this time. He who should be honoured must be honoured. If a political faction was behind the war victory then we must have the backbone to stand straight and speak the truth as we see it and recognise that which is good.
He further stated,

But, my friends we must remember that the people too made many sacrifices to ensure the war victory. They hoped that once the war was ended the people would receive relief in return. Unfortunately, the reality today is that the benefits of the war victory are being reaped by a handful of people and not the 20 million people of this country who make up the absolute majority.

This event was held to mark the donation of material towards the renovation of the Sinhagiri Viharaya in Hambantota, parallel to the commemoration of the 21st death anniversary of late President Ranasinghe Premadasa.
