A police investigation is underway over a complaint that had been made against a parliamentarian for allegedly utilising two police constables, assigned for VIP security detail for other purposes.

The complaint has been lodged by two police constables attached to the Security Detail of United People’s Freedom Alliance Parliamentarian Kamala Rantunga.

Police Media Spokesperson, SSP Ajith Rohana said; “An investigation is being conducted by the Senior Superintendent of Police of Gampaha into the complaint lodged by the two police officers to determine if the allegations are true or false.

The two police officers were originally attached to the Veyangoda and Hanwella police stations. The police officer who was attached to the Hanwella Police Station has resigned while the police constable attached to the Veyangoda Police Station has been deployed to Gampaha.’

When News1st contacted UPFA MP Kamala Ranatunga in this regard – she said that the two police officers do not report to duty on time. She further said that as she is away from home on several instances, there are no personal matters that the police constables had to to engage in, as claimed by them.
