Eleven Sri Lankan fishermen have been arrested in Tamil Nadu for violating India’s maritime boundary.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said that the fishermen aboard the two vessels were arrested on Saturday morning while engaging in fishing activities.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said that talks are underway with the Tamil Nadu government to secure the release of the fishermen.
On May 1, thirty Sri Lankan fishermen were arrested in India’s Andhra Pradesh with six vessels for violating the maritime boundary.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said four Sri Lankan fishermen aboard two vessels were arrested in a separate incident, in the Indian state of Orissa.
Although the request for the release of the Sri Lankan fishermen has been made by the Fisheries Ministry here in Sri Lanka; these requests have been rejected by the governments of Andhra and Orissa.
