A group including several parliamentarians attached to the United National Party staged a demonstration opposite the Hambantota police on Saturday.
The demonstrators demanded that the law be enforced against individuals who disrupted the activities of a group of UNP MPs who recently visited the Mattala Airport and the Hambantota Port.
The parliamentarians of the United National Party staged a procession to the Hambantota Police Station.
A group of seniors attached to the party also participated at the demonstration opposite the Hambantota Police Station. Subsequently, the demonstrators entered the premises of the police station.
According to our correspondent in the area, the group of MPs had stayed inside the police station for nearly two hours and handed over a letter addressed to the SP of Hambantota Sisira Kumara.
Thereafter, the demonstrators headed to the Hambantota town in a procession. Black flags were put up at several locations in the Hambantota town while banners in support of the police were also on display.
