First solar eclipse of the year to take place today

The first solar eclipse of this year is set to take place on Tuesday morning.

According to Professor Chandana Jayaratne of the Department of Physics in the University of Colombo, the eclipse will occur at 11. 28 a.m Sri Lankan time as an annular solar eclipse.

The solar eclipse will be seen by several countries to the south of the Indian Ocean as Antarctica and Australia but will not be visible to Sri Lanka.
