Journalist attacked in Jaffna

Sivagnanam Selvadeepan , a freelance journalist working for the Thinakkural and Veerakesari news papers was attacked in Jaffna on Monday.

Police said that Selvadeepan is currently receiving treatment at the Mandigai Hospital in Jaffna.

Police said that Sivagnanam Selvadeepan was attacked at around 08.30 on Monday night in the Ima-yanan area while travelling on his motorcycle.

The Police Media Spokesperson quoted Sivagnanam as saying that he was attacked with a pole. He was admitted to the Mandigai Hospital due to injuries sustained in the incident.

Twenty-nine-year-old Sivagnanam Selvadeepan is a resident of Jaffna.

Meanwhile issuing a communique, the Jaffna Media Centre says that it condemns the threats and intimidation made to journalists in the North.

The communique adds that it condemns the attack on journalist Sivagnanam Selvadeepan.
