The National Child Protection Authority states that there is a rapid increase in children being abused through Facebook.
Chairperson of the Authority Attorney-at-Law Anoma Dissanayake says that this was revealed through an investigation carried out during the recent months.
Attorney-at-Law, Anoma Dissanayake said that two individuals who had engaged in such acts have been arrested on suspicion.
She further stated,
[quote]We believe that foreigners are engaged in this malpractice. Yet, we received information of two locals who are carrying out such malpractices and we arrested them. We will be making arrests in the future as well. The Government provided us with funds for a ‘cyber wash’, a program that we are conducting. We will be conducting investigation further in to this.[/quote]
