Many mothers who travel abroad to work to sustain their struggling families, find themselves facing an emotional and financial crises when their children urge for them to return home.

However, as per their terms of service, these women do not have the opportunity to return to their motherland and meet their loved ones.

However, steps were taken recently, to secure passage for four such mothers, working abroad to return home to their families to celebrate the dawn of the New Year.

The initiative, dubbed, Senehasata Thilinayak, which loosely translates to – a tribute to love – is a joint venture of the Foreign Employment Services Bureau, Fonterra Brands Lanka, Sirasa TV and Newsfirst.

Through the Senehasata Thilinayak programme, four mothers who are working abroad to sustain their families, and are unable to return home owing to financial constraints, will be given an opportunity to travel home for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year and be with their children.

Three Sri Lankan women serving as domestic aides in Saudi Arabia and one woman serving as a domestic aide in Kuwait, were selected for this venture.

The Senehasata Thilinayak programme was officially launched at the auditorium of the Capital Maharaja Organisation in Colombo, Wednesday.

Marketing Manager of Fontera Brand Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Yauwanan Wigneswaran shared these views in that event;

“There are many mothers who travel to faraway countries to work for their children, but they are unable to spend the dawn of the New Year with their children. We at Anchor, introduced the Senehasata Thilinayak initiative to enable mothers who are working abroad, to spend the dawn of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year together with their families.”

Group Director, Electronic Media Business of the Capital Maharaja Organisation Limited Nedra Weerasinghe also shared her views:

“MTV/MBC Networks and News1st as Sri Lanka’s leading media network, as you know, have been involved in touching people’s lives over many, many years, not only through entertainment and news, but also through our CSR activities. The agency and Fonterra have worked with us on many occasions on many initiatives. As you can see when you get together with like-minded partners, you get results. So, thank you so much for bringing this project to us, for having faith that we could deliver, and I hope that at the end of the day, that we have brought joy to the families, and that they will have a great New Year,” said Group Director Nedra Weerasinghe.
