Groups have been gathered outside counting centres since Saturday night anticipating the announcement of the results of the election.

A group that gathered in Hambantota on Sunday morning, awaiting the announcement of preferential voting results, expressed their dissatisfaction at the delay in announcing the results.

Party supporters and candidates were seen awaiting the results of the provincial council election with much enthusiasm even before the counting of votes commenced.

Chandimaa Rasaputhra who recorded the second highest number of preferential votes in Matara District received a warm reception from his supporters.
