Protests were held in two parts of the country on Wednesday centered around several demands.
The Organization of Owners of Domesticated Elephants and the Sinhala Ravaya National Organization engaged in a protest march in Pelawatte.
The protestors demanded that opportunities be provided for the domestication of elephants in order to arrest the dwindling elephant population in Sri Lanka.
The protestors, accompanied by elephants, marched from Pelawatte to the Ministry of Wildlife and presented Minister Vijith Wijayamuni with a petition that included 15 points.
A discussion between the minister and Venerable Kolonnawe Sri Sumangala Thero of the Sinhala Ravaya followed thereafter.
