Employees of hospitals in the North Central Province engaged in a protest on Tuesday. They demanded that their appointments be confirmed.

Workers from a number of hospitals in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa that come under the purview of the North Central Provincial Health Ministry engaged in the protest

The protest was carried out in front of the North Central Provincial Council, however they were not permitted to enter the Provincial Council.

While the protest was being carried out, the Minister of the North Central Provincial Council, Anil Rathnayake arrived at the location but he too was not permitted into the provincial council premises.

Having asked to be allowed inside the provincial council several times, he then entered the premises, ignoring opposition of the security personnel.

The protesters too entered the premises along with him.

The protesters then proceeded towards the office of the North Central Provincial Health Ministry and forcibly entered the Health Minister’s office and engaged in the protest.

Afterwards, the Health Minister of the North Central Province, H.B. Semasingha arrived at the scene and the protesters were able to engage in discussions with the minister.

The protest came to an end at around 2.30 Tuesday afternoon.
