A person has been arrested in Liyanagemulla, Seeduwa for the alleged possession of Rs.330,000 worth of forged currency.
Police said that upon investigating the suspect’s bag, 67 forged 5000 rupee notes, four forged 1000 rupee notes and a number of notes of which only one side was printed were allegedly found in his possession.
The suspect was arrested in the Orugodawatta area on charges of defrauding 1.1 million rupees. Information about the counterfeit currency was subsequently revealed.
Police said that the suspect is expected to be produced in court today.
