Battle of the Blues ends in a draw

A resilient batting performance by Royal College, Colombo in the second innings ensured a draw in the 135th Battle of the Blues against S. Thomas’ College,  Mount Lavinia at the SSC Grounds in Colombo on Saturday.

After being put to bat first, the Royalists were restricted to a mere 158 runs in their first innings. At 58 for 8 Thiran Danapala and Harith Samarasinghe ensured that Royal College, Colombo surpassed the 150 run mark.

Batting in reply S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia posted 325 for the loss of eight wickets declared.

Sanesh de Mel shined for the Thomians with an impressive 110.

The second innings of Royal College seemed like a repeat of their first innings as they lost their first two wickets with the total on just two runs.

An 88 run partnership off 298 deliveries between Hashen Ramanayake and Randiv Pathirana was the highlight of the Royal College second innings.

Randiv Pathirana scored 23 off 154 deliveries while Hashen Ramanayake’s 96  runs came off of 328 deliveries. Royal College, Colombo were 268 for the loss of six wickets when the game ended.
