The Students Union of the Peradeniya University staged a demonstration in the university premises on Tuesday.

The protest was staged against the decision not to establish a Management Faculty at the Peradeniya University and the decision taken to cut down on the number of students who are being enrolled into the university as management students.

The Students Union organised the protest together with the existing management students of the university.

The protesters note that only 47 management students are due to be enrolled in 2014.

When inquired the Vice Chancellor of the University,  Professor Athula Senaratne notes that the allegations levelled by the students are baseless.

He notes that the management faculty is in the process of being set up with approval from the UGC and also notes that the number of students enrolled this year has been increased to 150.

The vice chancellor added that letters calling on students to attend registration have already been issued and that students will be enrolled from the 10th onwards.
