Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan by 129 runs in the seventh match of the Asia Cup at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
Sri Lanka also cruised to the finals of the Asia Cup.
Batting first, Sri Lanka posed a moderate total of 253 runs in their allotted 50 overs, losing six wickets.
The Afghan team managed to score only 124, losing all the wickets in 38.4 overs.
Kumar Sangakara was adjudged the man of the match.
Cricket’s youngest team stuns Sri Lanka
Kumar Sangakkara’s patient batting display was the only consolation for the Sri Lankan cricket team who were only able to pose a moderate total of 253 runs in their allotted 50 overs, losing six wickets against Afghanistan in the seventh match of the Asia Cup .
Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews won the toss and decided to bat first, in anticipation of a huge total against the cricket’s youngest team.
The spirited Afghan players who stunned Bangladesh in their last match, did not seem worried about losing the toss as their bowlers started to jolt Lankan batting lineup without much struggle.
Sangakara and Mathews were the only batsmen to face Afghan bowlers effectively and both scored 76 and 45 runs respectively. Kumar who was expected to put on another ton was run-out soon after the arrival of Mathews.
No other Lankan batsman could establish himself on the pitch as wickets started to fall at regular intervals.
Eight Afghanistan players bowled against the Sri Lankans, as they did not leave Sri Lankan batsmen to settle on the pitch for long.Afghanistan also excelled in the fielding which eventually led Sri Lanka to settle for a moderate total of 253
