Trincomalee tourist among five individuals who drowned to death

Five  individuals have died in separate incidents of drowning in Welimada, Bandarawela and Trincomalee. Police stated that two children and a tourist are among the deceased.

Two children aged 11 and 15, who went to bathe in an rock pool in the Ella area in Welimada, died on Saturday morning.Two  youth  who went to bathe in the Panangala River in Bandarwela died after drowning on Saturday.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that the two individuals drowned when they had gone for a swim with three others . The victims have been identified as eighteen-year-old Sadun Upun Kumara a resident of the Paththigedera,  Samaweththegama  area in Bandarawela and twenty-year-old Supun Madushanka.

Our correspondent stated that the three survivors had been rescued by area residents.

Meanwhile, the body of a tourist who was bathing in the sea close to the Pigeon Islands in Nilaveli, Trincomalee was found on Saturday morning .

Our correspondent stated that the  deceased has been identified as a twenty-two-year-old Chinese female named Tiangin. She has visited Sri Lanka on February 20.

Police investigations had revealed that she had gone diving with the necessary equipment when the incident occurred. Our correspondent stated that the remains of the victim are currently lying at the Nilaveli Hospital for the postmortem examinations.
