President Mahinda Rajapaksa, addresing an event at the Keragala Padmawathi Pirivena on Monday said that new technology, such as Facebook cannot be banned.
The closing ceremony of Keragala Pathmawathie Pirivena 2014, took place onMonday under the auspices of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Speaking at the event, President Rajapaksa said that he is devoted to protect all religions – while protecting the Buddha Sasana and respecting other religions.
He also commented on modern technology and social media websites.
“Today there is facebook even in the Pirivenas. We must use this modern technology. We cannot prohibit it. All that we can do is teach our children to identify right from wrong. “
“Parents need to be more cautious with their children. I think that incidents occur because of the lack of knowledge on how to use this and the neglect of parents,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the President also declared open a new seven-storey building at the Defence College in Colombo on Tuesday.
The launch of the college’s official website and the annual prize giving was also held under the auspices of the President. The college was provided with ISO certificaion. The College’s newsletter was also launched at this event.
