Speaking at the National Conference on Architecture,  Secretary of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa emphasised that Colombo requires a sound, long term solution for garbage disposal.

The Secretary of Defence made this comment at the conference that took place concurrent to the Architecture Exhibition at the BMICH in Colombo.

Speaking at Conference the Secretary of Defence, Gotabaya Rajapaksa expressed following views.

“Close to 70, 000 families who live in unauthorised settlements in Colombo will be given housing in high rise buildings designed and constructed to a good standard. It also should be noted that the new buildings are coming up in areas close to the people’s original residences, so that they do not need to find different jobs or send their children to new schools.”

“The families being resettled used to live in unsanitary and unhygienic conditions. Through greatly improving their housing facilities and introducing them to a more comfortable way of life in the new buildings, these people will gain the domestic environment, they need to achieve social mobility.”
