The Ministry of Health states that over 14,000 patients have died owing to cancer in 2013.
Records from last year alone indicated that 25,842 patients have been diagnosed with cancer.
The Director of the National Cancer Prevention Programme at the Ministry of Health, consultant, Dr. Neelamani Paranagama said that six commonly diagnosed cancers have been identified so far.
