Attending a press conference held on Sunday, Police Media Spokesperson, SSP Ajith Rohana stated that the police will not hesitate to use their power against anyone who obstructs their duty.

“The power given by the Parliament is then used. In such an instance, it does not matter whether one is a candidate or a supporter. If power is used on the police, then the police will use their power to counteract and will make sure the situation is under control.”

SSP Ajith Rohana further stated,

The police perform their duties for the people of this country. They are not doing it for their own personal benefit. The reason the police remove posters and remove cut outs, and stop people from drawing on the roads, and remove VVIPs from vehicles and prevent people from putting dark shutters to safeguard the voting rights of the people, is to protect the right of voting, the utmost right of the people.”

The Police Media Spokesperson made the above comment following the arrest of two UPFA Southern Provincial candidates, D.V.Upul and Ajith Prasanna on Sunday.
