Ajith Prasanna remanded till Tuesday

UPFA Southern Provincial Council Candidate Ajith Prasanna who was arrested on charges of obstructing the duties of a policeman was placed in remand custody till Tuesday. The order was issued by the Fort Magistrate.

Ajith Prasanna was arrested on Sunday while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo.

Fort magistrate Thilina Gamage who arrived at the Hospital onMonday, inspected the condition of the candidate and ordered that he be place in remand custody till Tuesday.

The magistrate ordered that the suspect be produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court with a medical report .

Ajith Prasanna was arrested on charges related to acting in an unruly manner and assaulting a police officer on the day on which nominations were handed in.

Meanwhile, the police has decided to summon Secretary of the Nawa Sama Samaja party Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne in order to inquire into an incident where false information was furnished in a nomination list handed in by the party.

According to a release issued by the police media spokesperson, the lawyer and justice of peace who ratified the nomination list have also been summoned to the Gampaha Police on Tuesday.

Police investigations have revealed that the names and addresses of the 15 individuals mentioned in the nomination list are false and that some persons mentioned in the list do not exist.
