Police have begun investigations into the fire that erupted at the Rubber Research Institute in Agalawatta earlier today.

Police said that the fire which broke out at 1 a.m. in the smoke room of the Institute was doused  by 3 a.m. with the intervention of the fire extinguishing departments of the Matugama Police and the Kalutara Municipal Council.

An estimate of the damage is yet to be ascertained.
