Tangalle children’s home employee remanded over alleged abuse

An employee of a children’s home in Marakolliya, Tangalle who was arrested on charges of child abuse, has been remanded until February 7. The suspect was produced before the Tangalle Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The Police Media Spokesperson’s Ofice, said the suspect was arrested following a complaint that was lodged with the National Child Protection Authority.

Our reporter says that there are twenty children residing at this children’s home, which is located in the village of Kapuhenwala in Marakoliya, Tangalle. Police suspect that thirteen of these children have been victims of abuse.

The suspect is a forty-three-year-old resident of Beliatta.
