Police request the public to use headlights when riding motorcycles in the Western Province during day time from Thursday. Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that this action is taken since it has been revealed that riding with the headlights on during daytime minimises accidents.

He further said that this would be made law and implemented countrywide if the pilot run is successful.

Meanwhile, the Police Media Spokesperson said that the law will be strictly enforced on individuals who violate traffic laws near traffic lights and at junctions from Thursday. Meanwhile, the police said that the law will be strictly enforced on those who drive heavy vehicles on the middle and right lanes on the road.

A communique issued by Police Headquarters states that heavy vehicles are prohibited to use the middle and right lanes according to traffic laws. However, the police notifies that heavy vehicles are allowed to use the middle or the right lane when overtaking.
