PAFFREL states that members of western and southern provincial councils are yet to hand over vehicles and other state property that have been in their possession, after the dissolving of the provincial councils.
Executive Director of PAFFREL, Rohan Hettiaracchi sated that the mayors have been informed with regard to this.
Rohan Hettiaracchi further stated,
“It has been more than one week since the Southern and Western Province has been dissolved. However the former members of the provincial councils in question are yet to hand over the state property. Therefore we requested the mayors and general secretaries to repossess government vehicles and other utilities provided by the government to these members. Furthermore we also made a request to take measures in order to refrain a party or a candidate in using these vehicles for other purposes.”
Newsfirst also made inquiries from the Elections Secretariat with regards to this matter.
The Additional Commissioner R.M.A.L Rathanayake stated they are taking measures to issue letters to the former provincial council members in the near future.
