An event to celebrate Thai Pongal was held at the Foreign Employment Bureau on Friday.

The event was held under the auspices of the General Secretary of the Citizens’ Front, MP J. Sri Ranga.

General Secretary of Citizens’ Front, MP J. Sri Ranga expressed his views in that event;

“Only in our country do we talk about communalism and come into power. That is the easy way. I think that we should be united without communal or caste divisions. I think that this is a good start for this. If there are five persons in one family and they all fight with each other then they will have
to sell their house to the next door neighbor. If all five unite then they can build more homes than the next door neighbour. But what do we do? The elder brother hits the younger brother, the younger brother hits the elder brother, and the well is given to the next door neighbour. Then neither the elder brother nor the younger brother can bathe in the well. But we do not say anything about this.”

Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare, Dilan Perera expressed these views;

“There is religious co-existence within the temple where we worship Lord Buddha. But we only use that religious harmony where we want it. We pray to Lord Buddha and to the Hindu god and say that if we pass our examinations we will keep our vows. We say that we will keep our vows if our illness is cured. But beyond that we will not let Hindus and Tamils do anything. When Muttiah Muralitharan was taking 800 wickets and breaking world records we were applauding him and giving him ovations in the stadium.   If there is a group that argues that as Sinhalese Buddhists they are the head of the household and if the Sinhalese Buddhists take up the role of the father, then they must look after the children well. As far as I know, good fathers and mothers love their children the most.”
