An Army Sergeant was killed in a motor accident in the Wekumbura area in Bibila on Monday.

The accident took place when Defender Jeep belonging to the Sri Lanka Army Special Task Force veered off the road and toppled in Wekumbura, Bibila.

The deceased was Army Sergeant  A.D. Nandalal , a thirty-four-year-old from Ratnapura. Police said  two  more persons sustained injuries in the accident.

Meanwhile, a lorry had met with an accident on Monday night in Baddegama after it was pursued by the police for continuing to move forward despite being ordered to stop.

An officer attached to the Poddala Police had chased after the speeding lorry. Police said that the lorry was illegally transporting cattle.
