Steps have been taken from next year to restrict the import of refrigerators and air-conditioners containing Hyrdro Chloro Fluoro Carbons or HCFC that pose a threat to the Ozone.
Issuing a communique, the Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energy quoted Minister Susil Premajayantha’s intention to completely ban the use and import of equipment that contain HCFC by 2020.
Import of perfumes, refrigerators and air conditioners that contain CFC have been banned since January 1, 2010.
