The Disaster Managment Centre says that 224 houses have been damaged owing to the adverse weather condition that is prevalent over the northern parts of the country. .

Assistant Director of the DMC Pradeep Koddipilli noted that many houses have been completely destroyed.

He also noted that more than 1000 individuals have also been affected owing to this situation.

The Department of Fisheries says that the fishermen living in the coastline of Puttalam, Mannar. Jaffna and Kilinochchi should refrain from setting out to sea owing to the deep depression that was forecast for these areas.

Director General of fisheries Nimal Hettiarachchi said that majority of the fishermen in those areas have not set out sea.
