Seas to become dangerous as depression moves to Mullativu

The low depression that is located in close proximity to the country has moved on to seas off Mullativu. The Meteorological Department states that due to this, seas between Mannar, Jaffna and Trincomalee have become dangerous.

The deep pressure area in close proximity to the country, the daily lives of the people from the districts of Trincomalee, Mullativu, Kilinochchi and Jaffna came to a standstill.

The Disaster Management Centre took measures to evacuate those who live 100 metres away from the coastal areas of the Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullathiuwu districts. Fishermen from the Jaffna district also refrained from setting out to sea on Sunday.

Meanwhile, rough seas and strong winds were experienced in the Mullativu district on Sunday. The Kilinochchi district also experienced similar weather.

The district of Trincomalee also experienced heavy rain and fishermen refrained from conducting fishing activities. Warnings were issued to fishermen from the Ampara district to not set out to sea and the coastal belts from Maradamunei to Pottuvil were reported to be rough.

Sea areas from the Puttalam District also experienced rough seas. Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre is anticipating any possible sudden disaster situation that may occur as a result of the prevalent inclement weather.

The Disaster Management Centre has also held several awareness programs in the north.
