A factory and three houses were damaged due to fire that erupted in the Kotahena area on Monday night.  This fire had erupted at a house down Vihara Mawatha in Kotahena on Monday night.

Despite the efforts by  residents to douse the fire, three houses were damaged. Meanwhile,  a garment factory nearby also suffered serious damage due to the fire.  The fire was doused with the assistance of the Colombo Fire Brigade. According to reports, five fire extinguishes were used in dousing the fire.

Chief of  Colombo  Fire Brigade, Rohitha Fernando said, “It is because of the manner in which goods were stored at the location that we found it difficult to douse the fire. The goods were stored in an unorganised manner. At the same time the factory did not have the necessary equipment to douse a fire. It is because we had access to water from both sides that we were able to douse the fire.”

The cause of the fire  is not yet been ascertained.
