Indian Minister of Fisheries Sharad Pawar has invited his Sri Lankan counterpart Minister Rajitha Senaratne to India for discussions on fishing issues faced by both countries.
Minister Rajitha Senaratne said that he expects to visit the country in the near future. Currently 213 Sri Lankan Fishermen and 40 vessels are in Indian custody.
The Ministry of Fisheries said that 170 fishermen are being detained in Tamil Nadu while the rest are detained in Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, there are 227 Indian fishermen who are in local custody for violating maritime border laws.
