Speaking in Parliament on Friday, Minister Maithripala Sirisena stated that the defeats of the United National Party can be attributed to the party becoming distant from the people.

He shared these views in Parliament on Friday:

“The leadership and the actions of the United National Party which has failed to identify the pulse of the people; have become distant from the people today because it is not with the people and because it has not identified the problems of the people.”

“Therefore, irrespective of the level of criticism that is directed at the party for being unable to identify and provide solutions to the problems of the people, it seems that the United National Party cannot seek solutions for problems within the party let alone seek solutions for the problems in the country.”
