Three police teams deployed to investigate Madurankuliya accident

Three youth were killed when a threewheeler collided onto an official police vehicle at 12:30 Saturday close to the 116 anicut in Madurankuliya on the Puttalam – Chilaw Main road.

The Police Media Spokesperson said that the official police vehicle of the Superintendent of Police of the Puttalam Division which was plying from Mundalama to Puttalam had collided with a three-wheeler that was plying from Puttalam to Mundalama.

Police said that, the threewheeler that was travelling at an excessive speed had turned over, into the opposite direction after losing control and collided with the official vehicle.

 Speaking to Newsfirst, the Superintendent of Police of the Puttalam Division said that the injured youth were taken to the Puttalam General Hospital in his back-up security vehicle.

 The victims were relatives of the same family living in the Mirichcha-Kattuwa area in Munadalama and had been operating a restaurant in Madurankuliya.

 The three victims had met with the tragedy while heading back after dropping off a fellow employee living on a by-road, which is located onto the right side of the locations where the accident took place.

 Speaking of the incident one of the restaurant employees said,

 “They came on the main road and dropped me at my gate. They left. I heard them head towards Chilaw .”

 Twenty-year-old Ayantha Madushanka was at the wheel of the ill-fated threewheeler at the time of the accident.  Speaking of  her loss, the mother of Ayantha Madushanka said,

 “I have told him not to travel at night. Look at what happened because he did not listen to me.”

 Twenty-year-old Milan Prasanna, the owner of the restaurant was another passenger in the ill-fated three-wheeler.  The uncle of Milan Prasanna said that they have their suspicions about the incident

 Seventeen-year-old Pramodya Shrimal Madushaka, the cousin brother of Milan Prasanna also met with an untimely death.

 The magisterial inquiry was conducted by the Acting Magistrate of Puttalam Mohammed Cader.

 The driver of the official police vehicle was arrested and later released on the surety bail of Rs.200,000.  The Police said that three special police teams were deployed to investigate the accident.
