Democratic Party Leader, Sarath Fonseka has denied press reports that the party is preparing to form an alliance.

Fonseka made these remarks at a public rally held in Mirigama on Saturday.  The rally was held in Pasyala, Mirigama on Saturday under the auspices of Democratic Party Leader Sarath Fonseka.

“These are the rumours that are spread by those in the government and the opposition who cannot do anything for the country but are fearful of people rallying to do something for the country.”

The party leader said that the reason why a new force and the fresh election symbol of the flaming torch was introduced to the people was, that they could not easily forget the destitution that was felt after witnessing the behaviour of the nobility.

Chief Organizer of Kolonnawa of the Democratic Party, Susil Kindelpitiya also expressed his views at the public rally.

Susil Kindelpitiya further said that the only true opposition party in the country is the Democratic Party as it is the only party who is ready to fight for the people.

“These people are now aware that they cannot fight us. My friends, it is only the Democratic Party which is led by General Sarath Fonseka who fights for you even without power.”
