The police have advised the public to exercise caution when carrying out financial transactions due to the increased number of counterfeit notes in circulation.
Police Media Spokesperson, SSP Ajith Rohana said that the warning was taking into consideration afterthe many cases of counterfeiting currency they had been receiving since October 1 which included counterfeit notes of 500, 1000, 2000, 5000.
SSP Ajith Rohana further said that by the special operation conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department in October in Malabe, they were able to discover 2000 notes worth Rs. 1.7 million as well.
