Army, police, wildlife officers join hands against Ruhunupita elephants

A programme commenced on Wednesday to drive away elephants from the Ruhunupita village area which falls under the purview of the Polonnaruwa-Welikanda District Secretarial division.

 Our area correspondent stated that the the programme continued into the night as well.

 The programme commenced on Wednesday evening.

 Members of the Wildlife Department, the Sinhapura Army Camp, Civil Defence unit, Welikanda police and the Mahaweli Authority took part in the programme.  Our area correspondent stated that wild elephants had been forcibly moved until the Maithri Gama area on Wednesday.
