The budget of the Kesbewa Urban Council was defeated by a majority of one vote on Tuesday

The United People’s Freedom Alliance governs the Urban Council. The Kesbewa Urban Council comprises of ten ruling party representatives and seven opposition representatives.

However, when the vote to pass the budget took place on Tuesday, only six votes were cast in favour of the budget while seven were cast against. Four Urban Council representatives of the ruling party abstained from voting.
