Two individuals who had engaged in a racket promising employment opportunities in Canada have been arrested in the Keselwatta area in Colombo.
Police Media Unit said that the suspects have attempted to charge a sum of Rs.600,000 from a resident in Jaffna, claiming to be the Coordinating Secretary of the Minister of Housing Engineering and Common Amenities.
The suspects are residents of Ambalangoda and Anguruwella. The Police Media Unit further stated that a few incidents have been recorded in the recent past of various individuals engaging in similar rackets claiming to be coordinating secretaries of government ministers.
The police urged the general public to be more vigilant.
