The opening of an aquarium and a green house constructed under the Divineguma Programme in the premises of the Bandaragama District Secretariat took place on Monday.
This event was held under the auspices of Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.
Speaking at the event Dr. Rajitha Senaratne stated:
“Only 25 percent consume fish as a means of protein while 75 percent consume other meat items. Because Sri Lanka is a Buddhist country 72 percent of the population consume fish. That is why I initiated a programme to gather data as to how much fish is consumed in the country and how much is needed to be consumed by children to end malnutrition so we can produce the necessary amount.”
