The Central Environmental Authority says that measures will be taken to amend the Environment Act.
Chairman of the authority, Wimal Rubasinghe says that a need had arisen to amend the act to meet the present requirements.
He further added:
“The act was introduced back in 1980 and needs to be amended to solve the present day problems. This decision was made by the Minister of Environment. When the act was drafted in 1980 the economy and social system was different to what it is today. Therefore, the government has identified a need to amend this act and steps are being taken for this purpose.”
