COLOMBO (News 1st) - 1. Central Bank Governor, Dr. Indrajit Coomeraswamy stated the CBSL is working towards allowing the EPF to return to the secondary market in government securities. Previously the EPF had moved out of the secondary market following the bond scam in 2015 and 2016. 2. The Minneriya National park reopened yesterday (August 28). The National park had been temporarily closed earlier following an incident where a group of fisherman had attacked the wildlife officers attached to the reserve. 3. The death of a 1 1/2-year-old boy in the Galaha hospital in Kandy had led to a tense situation yesterday (August 28). The Police STF was also deployed to contain the clash. 4. The wildlife officers have made a decision to refrain from all work activities with effect from today. The strike action was launched to force the officials to arrest those responsible for the assault of the wildlife officers recently. 5. A five-member committee chaired by the Prime Minister was appointed yesterday (August 28) by the speaker of parliament, Karu Jayasuriya. The committee has been appointed to review the delimitation report. 6. The Japanese State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kazuyuki Nakane arrived in Sri Lanka today (August 29) to participate in the commissioning ceremony of the patrol vessels donated from Japan to SL. 7. President Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to leave for Nepal today (August 29) to attend the 4th BIMSTEC summit held in Kathmandu this year. 8. During discussions held between Vietnamese Foreign Affairs Minister and Sri Lankan Prime Minister yesterday (August 28), it was agreed to further strengthen long-standing bilateral relations across multiple domains. 9. According to statistics by the CBSL, the Sri Lankan rupee stood at 162.4 to a US dollars yesterday (August 28). The CBSL report points out that the rupee continues to depreciate against the US dollar. 10. The third phase of the Gammadda door to door initiative, organized by News 1st to look into the issues of the public commenced yesterday (August 28).
