Dengue Cases Surpass 90,000 Mark

COLOMBO(News 1st): The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka has risen to 92,011.

The highest number of cases continues to be reported from the Western Province.

The dengue-related death toll stands at 68.

The National Dengue Control Unit said that 119 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions continue to remain at high risk for dengue.

Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said that although there has been a decline in the number of dengue cases compared to previous months, close attention must be paid to the situation with the onset of the Northeast Monsoon in the coming months.

He further stated that over the last few weeks, the number of dengue cases reported has been gradually declining day by day.

However, dengue prevention campaigns are still being carried out across the country with the support of Medical Officers and health authorities.

Dengue prevention activities are being conducted in 63 Medical Officer of Health divisions and 12 districts, with the public urged to consider dengue prevention a shared responsibility and continue taking necessary action.

Meanwhile, with the developing El Niño conditions and the possibility of unexpected rainfall, health authorities warn that new mosquito breeding sites could emerge, potentially increasing the risk of dengue transmission.
