COLOMBO (News 1st); A fresh legal development has emerged in the ongoing investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, with Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, filing an intervening petition before the Court of Appeal in relation to a petition submitted by former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Suresh Salley.

Salley's petition challenges his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks.

Through the intervening petition, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has sought permission from the Court of Appeal to intervene in the proceedings concerning Salley's application and present submissions before the court. The petition also requests that the court dismiss the former intelligence chief's petition.

The matter is scheduled to be taken up tomorrow before a Court of Appeal bench comprising President of the Court of Appeal Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando.
