National Poson Week Begins Today

COLOMBO (News 1st): National Poson Week begins today under the theme, "Quelling the Flames of War through the Teachings of the Buddha."

A series of religious observances and programmes have been organized at sacred sites, including Mihintale, the Anuradhapura Atamasthana, and Thanthirimale. 

Anuradhapura District Secretary Ranjith Wimalasuriya said all necessary arrangements have been made to facilitate the large number of devotees expected to visit Anuradhapura during Poson Week, which will continue until July 2.

Meanwhile, arrangements have been finalized to hold three "Ruhunu Maya Poson Pooja" Poson Zones organized by the Maharaja Media Network.

The Poson Zone will be held at the historic Ramba Rajamaha Viharaya in Ambalantota on the 29th and 30th June.

A series of religious programmes, including almsgiving and meditation sessions, will be held. 

An exposition of sacred relics brought from the Ambalantota Maha Chethiya Pirivena is also scheduled. 

Meanwhile, the Sirasa Minipura Poson Zone, organised by Sirasa FM and the MBC Network, will be held at the Saddharmalankara Vidyatanaya in Ratnapura from June 29 to July 5.

The Angeerasa Poson Zone, organised by the Maharaja Media Network, will also be held from June 27 to July 3, centred around the Sri Angeerasa International Buddhist Centre in Mattala.
